It is located 9 km approx from Arequipa downtown
(20 minutes in car), placed in a beautiful countryside, where
the rivers Socabaya, Paucarpata and Postrero water an important
land.
One of the more important and traditional mansions of the region,
of Virreynal construction done with sillar (white volcanic stone)
at the border of a cliff. It was built on XVIII century. According
to history, the founder of Arequipa Garcí Manuel de Carbajal,
ordered to build it for his son.
The mansion after pass through several owners was sold on 1585 to
Jesuitas Congregation who installed in the mansion like a country
house, to rest and like a place for Spiritual Exercises. They
Built the church, where there is the image of the outstanding Jesuita
missionary, San Francisco Javier. In 1785 Juan Crisóstomo
de Goyoneche purchased The Mansion. In 1821, the Archbishop
Jose Sebátian de Goyeneche refurbish the church.
The rooms ans yards of this beautiful mansion, with colonial characteristics,
“imaginary takes you to the colonial time". It
represents part of the history of Arequipa on their "changes
of owners". In 1987 it was open to the public for historical
and touristic visits.
